Presented by Lynlee Olivera, LMFT and Karan Lamb, PsyD

(2 CE credits)

Last day to register: Thursday, October 17, 2024

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a complex diagnosis, due to the differences in symptom presentation. We will describe the symptomatology of OCD, and provide an overview of obsessions and compulsions, prevalence of the disorder, co-occurring diagnoses and a case example followed by a question and answer. Then, we will review assessments for both anxiety and OCD, and explain the empirically supported therapeutic interventions and treatment models. There will be time for questions and answers and sharing resources.

      About the Presenters

Dr. Karan Lamb is a Florida licensed psychologist with experience treating children, adolescents, and adults in individual, family, and group therapy. She received her doctoral degree from George Washington University. Dr. Lamb has spent the past 20 years working with families with OCD and anxiety-related issues. She worked as a clinical interviewer for the Johns Hopkins University’s OCD Family study, and transitioned to working in private practice at Alvord, Baker & Associates, before opening a private practice in Tampa, Florida. She is an Adjunct Clinical Supervisor at the University of South Florida in the Psychology Department, and the Past President of the Bay Chapter of the Florida Psychological Association.

Lynlee Olivera is a LMFT in California. She has experience treating children, families and adults in individual, family and group therapy. Lynlee graduated from Chapman University after which she has worked in both nonprofit and county programs. In 2018 she transitioned into Private Practice where she began her journey into understanding and treating OCD.

        Educational Goals

This course is designed to enhance therapists’ ability to accurately identify and differentiate between obsessions (intrusive, unwanted thoughts) and compulsions (repetitive behaviors or mental acts). It aims to improve therapists’ skills in assessing and evaluating clients’ obsessions and compulsions, enabling them to distinguish between anxiety disorders and OCD. Additionally, therapists will gain a comprehensive understanding of the available treatment interventions for adolescents and adults with OCD.

        Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

        1. Gain a comprehensive understanding of the symptoms of OCD, including the nature of obsessions and compulsions.
        2. Identify prevalence rates of OCD in various populations, including data for under-represented populations.
        3. Identify three common co-morbid conditions that often accompany OCD.
        4. Identify three assessments for adults with OCD to assist with diagnostic and measurement of severity of obsessions and compulsions.
        5. Identify three different treatment models and approaches for managing OCD symptoms.
        6. Identify the effectiveness of pharmacological treatments and their role in a comprehensive treatment plan.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Licensed psychologists, licensed social workers, licensed professional counselors, licensed marriage & family therapists, and pre-licensed professionals.
